General information
The renovated Shannon Library opened in January, but the book move to populate new shelves is ongoing. Books that are in transit to a new space will remain available “by request” in Virgo. The book move began in December 2023 and concludes in fall 2024. For questions about the book move, email lib-collections@virginia.edu.
Current book move status:
- Shannon, 5th floor: Book move is complete
- Shannon, 4th floor: Book move is complete
- Current periodicals: Book move is complete
- Reference section: In progress
- Shannon, 3rd floor: Book move is complete
- Shannon, 2nd floor: Book move is complete
- Shannon, 1st floor: In progress
- Clemons, 1st floor: In progress. Many books from Clemons will move to Shannon during the process above. After this is complete, Clemons stacks will be rearranged to fit the updated collection arrangement. Clem 1 closed in March for this purpose and will re-open on September 23, 2024.
Access to materials
Physical materials
The first floor of Clemons Library is closed to facilitate a large book move, but all other Library spaces are fully operational. Books that are in transit to Shannon Library or Clemons will remain available “by request” in Virgo for the duration of the move.

Equipment loan
Equipment like chargers, white board markers, and bike pumps can be requested at circulation desks. A/V equipment is available through the Robertson Media Center. Learn more about equipment and tech at the Library.
