Book drops

The Library has two drive-up book drops: Ivy Stacks and Central Grounds Parking Garage (under the Bookstore). Both are shown on the map of Library locations

  • Ivy Stacks is located at 2450 Old Ivy Rd. When you enter the Ivy Stacks area, turn left past the temporary building and the book drop is on the left. 
  • The book drop inside Central Grounds Garage (under the Bookstore) is located on the second level. Enter the garage from Emmet Street. No payment is required to enter the garage.

Directions below are broken out into locations on central Grounds (where you’d park in the Central Grounds Parking Garage) and North Grounds Locations (which have their own parking). 

Walking directions from the parking facilities are also provided below, as well as information about elevator access. Use the links below to jump to the location you’d like to visit.

Alderman Library

Alderman, the main library location, is closed for renovation until 2023. 

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
    • If you prefer to take the elevator, you can enter Newcomb Hall and take an elevator to the 3rd floor. 
  • When you exit Newcomb Hall, walk toward McCormick Rd. 
  • Before you get to the road, you'll cross a grassy area shared with Peabody Hall and the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library. The library is on the north end of the courtyard.

Clemons Library

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
    • If you prefer to take the elevator, you can enter Newcomb Hall and take an elevator to the 3rd floor. 
  • When you exit Newcomb Hall, walk toward McCormick Rd. 
  • Before you get to the road, you'll cross a grassy area shared with Peabody Hall, Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library. Clemons is behind Small Special Collections Library. 

Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
  • At the top, follow the sidewalk to the street (McCormick Rd).
  • Cross McCormick Road and follow it past University Chapel.
  • Cross University Avenue at the traffic light and Rugby Rd.
  • Continue down Rugby until you reach the Fralin Museum of Art on the left.
  • Proceed up the steps, bear right, then left past the Art Museum.
  • The Fine Arts Library is ahead, on the right.

If you prefer to take an elevator:

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 1st or Ground floor.
  • Walk toward Emmet St., turn right and continue walking to the intersection with University Ave.
  • Turn right and cross University Ave. at the pedestrian crosswalk.
  • Walk up Culbreth Rd. until you reach Ruffin Hall.
  • Take the Ruffin Hall elevator to the 3rd floor.
  • Exit Ruffin and bear right. The Fine Arts Library is on the right.

Mary and David Harrison Institute for American History, Literature, and Culture

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
    • If you prefer to take the elevator, you can enter Newcomb Hall and take an elevator to the 3rd floor. 
  • When you exit Newcomb Hall, walk toward McCormick Rd. 
  • Before you get to the road, you'll cross a grassy area shared with Peabody Hall and the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library.

Music Library

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
  • At the top, follow the sidewalk to the street (McCormick Rd).
  • Turn right and proceed down McCormick Rd.
  • At the Amphitheater, turn left and walk until you see Old Cabell Hall on the right.
  • Enter OCH, turn right, and take the elevator to the third floor.

If you prefer to take an elevator:

  • Walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall.
  • Walk down the hallway in front of you, and turn right into a smaller hallway.
  • Take the elevator (on your right) to the third floor.
  • Exit Newcomb Hall and follow the sidewalk to the street (McCormick Rd).
  • Turn right and proceed down McCormick Rd.
  • At the Amphitheater, turn left and walk until you see Old Cabell Hall on the right.
  • Enter OCH, turn right, and take the elevator to the third floor.

Charles L. Brown Science & Engineering Library

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right and walk toward Newcomb Hall.
  • At the brick courtyard, turn right again and proceed up Newcomb Rd. (small road behind dorms, parallel to Emmet).
  • Turn left at McCormick Rd. and continue up until you see Clark Hall on the right.

Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library

  • Take the Central Grounds Parking Garage elevator to the 4th floor.
  • Turn right, walk toward Newcomb Hall, and proceed up the outside steps to the right of the building.
    • If you prefer to take the elevator, you can enter Newcomb Hall and take an elevator to the 3rd floor. 
  • When you exit Newcomb Hall, walk toward McCormick Rd. 
  • Before you get to the road, you'll cross a grassy area shared with Peabody Hall and the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library.

 

Directions to North Grounds locations

Arthur J. Morris Law Library

From North via US Route 29 South

  • Take US Rt. 29 South until you drive under the US 250 Bypass.
  • Remain on Rt. 29 South Business (Emmet St.) and turn right onto Arlington Blvd. (at the intersection, you will see a Wells Fargo).
  • The Law School is at the end of Arlington Blvd.
  • Turn left onto Massie Rd., first right onto Nash, and make an immediate right into the Law School's visitor parking lot.

From South via US Route 29 North

  • Take US Rt. 29 North. This becomes the Rt. 29/250 Bypass.
  • Exit at Leonard Sandridge Rd. and turn left at the first traffic light, Massie Rd.
  • You will pass Darden, the Business School, on the left.
  • Turn left onto Nash Rd. and make an immediate right into the Law School's visitor parking lot.

From I-64 (East and West)

  • Take exit 118B for the Rt. 29/250 Bypass.
  • After exiting, you will be on the “29–250 Bypass.”
  • Take the third exit, Leonard Sandridge Rd.
  • Drive down the road and turn left at the first traffic light, Massie Rd.
  • You will pass Darden, the Business School, on the left.
  • Turn left onto Nash Rd. and make an immediate right into the Law School's visitor parking lot.

From Charlottesville Airport

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) is located approximately eight miles from the University.

  • Take US Rt. 29 South until you drive under the US 250 Bypass.
  • Remain on Rt. 29 South Business (Emmet St.) and turn right onto Arlington Blvd. (at the intersection, you will see a Wells Fargo).
  • The Law School is at the end of Arlington Blvd.
  • Turn left onto Massie Rd., first right onto Nash, and make an immediate right into the Law School's visitor parking lot.

 

The Camp Family Library at Darden

From North via US Route 29 South

  • Take US Rt. 29 South until you drive under the US 250 Bypass.
  • Remain on Rt. 29 South Business (Emmet St.) and turn right onto Arlington Blvd. (at the intersection, you will see a Wells Fargo).
  • At the end of Arlington Blvd., turn left onto Massie Rd.
  • The entrance to Darden is the second right.
  • Stop at the Gatehouse, the first building on the right, for parking pass and registration.

From South via US Route 29 North

  • Take US Rt. 29 North. This becomes the Rt. 29/250 Bypass.
  • Exit at Leonard Sandridge Rd. and turn left at the first traffic light, Massie Rd.
  • The entrance to Darden is the next left.
  • Stop at the Gatehouse, the first building on the right, for parking pass and registration.

From I-64 (East and West)
