Elizabeth Margutti
I am the librarian specifically assigned to work with Continuing Education students. If you have questions about how to do research for your classes, how to track down books and journal articles, or just how to take advantage of what the library offers to you as a Continuing Education student, please let me know. I have worked in a number of different libraries since I got my MLS from UCLA (we won’t talk about how long ago) always academic libraries and always doing reference and instruction. I’ve worked at San Diego State University, Va Tech, MIT and now at the University of Virginia. Oh, and a 6 month job exchange at Indiana University in Bloomington. When I first came to U.Va. in 1983, I worked in Clemons Library coordinating reference and instruction, primarily for undergraduate students. In 2002, I was given the opportunity to transfer to the Government Information Resources department in Alderman Library. Sometimes I miss the hubbub of the undergraduates in Clemons but it has been very stimulating to learn about government resources–so if you need extra help in locating some tidbit of government information, just let me know!

After getting my MLS from Catholic University I’ve worked in Alderman Library for many years at the main Reference Desk, as well as in Periodicals/Microforms and Government Documents. I welcomed the opportunity several years ago to begin working with Elizabeth Margutti, helping SCPS students with their research. Since then I’ve worked in person, in classes, via email and on the phone to teach SCPS students to navigate Virgo and the databases to find the sources they need. This work has been a continuing pleasure for me! The research guides I’ve compiled include African American Studies; BIS/SCPS Research & Writing; Newspapers; Poverty; Statistics; Women’s Studies.
